Rules of Thumb
Island hoods should be a minimum of 1000 cfm to work correctly no matter what type of cooktop is below it or what type of cooking you do. The hood should overlap the cooktop 3” on each side and be mounted no higher than 30” off the cooking surface.
No down draft cooktop can be installed over an oven. If this is what you need you MUST buy a downdraft range.
Self clean your oven within the first month of use. If you oven is going to fail it usually will do so in a self cleaning cycle. If this does happen, you will still be under warranty and will be able to have it repaired at no charge. Do not self clean your oven before any major holiday or party which you will need it.
Never install a dishwasher in a corner.
If your Electric Cloths dryer stops working, check your circuit breaker and try a hard reset.
If your electronic control has an error code on it turn off your circuit breaker for a minute and turn back on. This may cause the code to go away. You do not know how many times this fixes this particular problem
Front loading washers need low sudsing soap only or they will not work correctly.
Indoor Barbecues are a mess to clean and most ventilators cannot evacuate the smoke caused by HEAVY use.
Electric cooktops simmer better than gas.
A 2400 watt electric burner is equal to a 15,000 btu gas burner.
Store bought powder dishwasher soap has a shelf life of 1 month. Liquid dishwasher soap does not clean well. Our suggestion is to buy individually wrapped tablets either hard or liquid will do. The advantage is they have an unlimited shelf life and contain harsher grit that will scrub and clean your dishes better than any liquid or powder. If you have soap in your cup either gooey or dry or if soap remains on your dishes that means that your soap is no longer useable. Throw it away and buy new soap.
All dishwashers need to use rinse aid. If you do not use rinse aid you will leave your dishes with cloudy or a dirty appearance.
Most dishwashers do not dry well because the department of energy does not allow for a heated dry cycle.
If your appliances are delivered to your job site and you do not plan to have them installed for longer than 10 days, open and inspect merchandise for cosmetic defects. We only have a certain amount of time to report damage to the manufacturer.
Never put a refrigerator in your bedroom. They run all the time and make noise. Icemakers dump their cubes every hour or so and will wake you up. So far no manufacturer makes one which we would consider quiet.
All electronic ovens have cooling fans in them. These fans run until the controls are cool enough to be safe from failure due to heat. The fans have different sound levels and depending upon your hearing and the acoustics of your home this sound may disturb you. No manufacturer makes a quiet fan yet. The sound you will hear is a “wind” sound, not noisy motors or grating sound. If that is the case then you have a bad fan. The fan will run a considerable time after self cleaning so we recommend that you do this late in the evening when it will not disturb you.
Ice machines that make clear ice have heavy service issues, need to be cleaned for lime scale once a year, are very noisy, and run all the time.
Saving Money in the Current Economy
Our business is pretty much high end appliances. The competition keeps the prices at a manageable level. This is not a high margin business. At the end of the day we are happy to walk away with our bills paid and the lights can come on tomorrow. That is why in tough economic times we see so many appliance business fail. There is not much profit in this business. I can probably name 30 dealers who have not survived the tough economic climates we have rode through in my 30 years here.
That said, we have many closeout products in our inventory and are trying to move through some old stock because it is costing us too much money sitting in our warehouse. These products are almost all new and come with a factory warranty. We have opened a closeout warehouse last year. We will not have $200.00 dishwashers or $300.00 refrigerators, but what we will have is high end products that may have cost us thousands of dollars and now reduced to under what we paid. Your net savings will probably be between 40%-50% of what we had it selling for NEW (meaning current). We hope you take advantages of these savings and please check our closeout page as I will be posting product on our specials page. Right now I have about 100 units there. I can tell you what types of product you can expect to find : Built in refrigerators like Sub Zero, Thermador built in ovens, high end front load laundry, stainless steel free standing as well as counter depth refrigerators, to name a few .
So if you plan to do a remodel and are not too particular about color or matching brands you are a good candidate for this type of product. We have helped out some foreclosure buyers by saving them hundreds if not thousands of dollars over purchasing brand new year models. I hope to see you and if you help us move through some of these older NEW products we will help you save some money.
